Self Help Holds for Left and Right Side Energies

There is a simple self help exercise to help the left and right side energies (called the Supervisors). The simplicity of these exercises belies their power. A little every day will go a long way to keep the energies moving and cleaning, as well as releasing tensions in the body.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Part 1 Supervisor

If there is an effect in the front of the body (like bloating, stomach cramp, etc) then the cause or the tension is in the back so we work on the back to clear the front (descending energy).

A simple exercise to clear the front is to do the following: for the left side, place your right hand over your left shoulder and sit on your left hand (so place your left hand on your left sitting bone, palm up).

Do this for at least 20 minutes, and reverse the hands for the right side.

This exercise helps clear anything ABOVE the waistline so good to clear the head, and headaches.

These exercises are part two of the Trinity Exercises (Main Central, Supervisors and Mediator).

 

Jin Shin Jyutsu Part 2 Supervisor

If there is an effect in the back of the body (so back pain, hip pain, etc.) then the cause or tension is in the front of the body, so we work on the front to clear the back (ascending energy).

A simple exercise to clear the back is to do the following: for the left side, place your right hand over your left shoulder and place your left hand/fingers in your left groin.

Do this for at least 20 minutes, then reverse the hands for the right side.

This exercise helps clear anything BELOW the waistline so it is great to help alleviate heavy or twitchy legs.

More than Just an Immune Booster Hold

This immune booster hold is, for me, one of the treasures of Jin Shin Jyutsu self help. It’s so simple and yet so powerful to do, it even works when you fall asleep in this position – that’s because your hands are connecting with the energy sites and working with the life energy in the body.

I’ve talked a lot about this hold in previous posts, but this self help hold does much more than ‘just’ boost your immune system, because it also helps to clear the whole side that you’re working on. As you hold, it helps release any tension in the hips and the whole of the back, and it moves the energy all the way down the legs. Placing your hand on the shoulder also helps to release tension in that area.

So the exercise again:

For the right flow, place the left hand over the right shoulder (like a coat hanger) and place the right hand on the right side groin. Do for 20 minutes minimum (but if you can’t do it for that long, don’t worry! just hold for a few minutes).

For the left flow, place the right hand over the left shoulder and and place the left hand on the left side of the groin.

I really got into this hold when I used it for a sore throat. I did the self help hold, fell asleep and in the morning I had no sign of a sore throat. The next time I had a sore throat I did the hold immediately and within a couple of minutes I actually felt how the sore throat dissolved into nothing with no sign of a cold thereafter. It was rather extraordinary, and it helped me feel the full power of this exercise.

Self Help to Beat Fatigue and the Heat

Fatigue colours our world and affects how we feel, and Jin Shin Jyutsu is one of the most powerful ways to overcome fatigue.

Time after time, I have tried and tested these holds and it is absolutely amazing how my whole world can change in 20 minutes – purely because I have been able to energise myself. And if I can, you can too with this simple exercise.

The Spleen energy governs our energy levels and this exercise is very powerful for vitality and calm (one needs energy to stay calm, believe it or not!) – 20 minutes minimum every day.

The Spleen is the biggest lymphatic organ in the body and if kept happy, helps all the other organs.

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, a sequence of HOLDS is referred to as a FLOW. The following self-help flow can be used to revitalise and re-energise the whole system, and to be ‘happy and content where ever you are’. Use it to regulate the body’s temperature (to warm the body when it’s cold, to cool the body when it’s hot), and to balance the nervous system (to calm).

Hold each step for a few minutes or until you feel you want to move to the next position. Tip: put on a chill out CD and when the track changes, move the hands to the next position… The music can add a wonderful dimension to the session…

So to summarise: the Spleen flow helps beat fatigue, insomnia, headaches, anxiety and much more. It stimulates the immune system, helps the digestive system, helps regulate our body temperature (you can use it to warm and to cool the body – isn’t that great?) – this flow also helps the skin, helps beat the attitude of WORRY and well, it’s just a great general all round wonder flow – use it with HUMILITY AND GRATITUDE!

Q&A: Jin Shin Jyutsu for (Deep) Skin Conditions

Question: Hello. Thank you for your blog on self help holds with Jin Shin Jyutsu. I broke out in eczema on my body 8 years ago, starting from the back of my neck and during the first year it spread to various parts of my body then gradually disappeared after 3 years. The only spot that still exists is covering all over the back of my neck, which is no longer red but still itches quite often and is a bit swollen, though I no longer feel pain when I tilt my head back. I was told that I now have scleroderma. Would you have any suggestions what points I can hold to help heal this condition? Thank you, I would really appreciate your advice. – D

Answer: Hi D – The special body function for the skin is to palm the calves. At least 20 minutes a day and if you can, twice a day for at least two weeks. See this older post Self Help for the Deep Skin. There is also another special function energy hold for the Skin Surface. Place the fingers of the right hand under the left foot at center of the sole, and with the left hand hold the left little toe. Reverse the hands for the other side. This hold is particularly great for any itchiness of the skin. It also purifies the skin. It would also help to do the Main Central Exercise (see the older post) to harmonise your whole being and help sort out the underlying causes i.e. the immune system (you could also work on the immune system, not to stimulate it, but to harmonise it with this Immune System Hold. Comment: This spring I’ve been getting every cold there is, and it felt like I’ve been constantly sick. Do these two exercises as often as possible:

To clear the front (especially during a flare up) place the left hand over the right shoulder (SEL 11) and the right hand on the sitting-bone (buttock SEL 25) with palm up. Reverse hands for the left side. This exercise is to help the descending energy down the front of the body.

To clear the back, place the left hand over the right shoulder (SEL 11) and the right hand on the groin (SEL 15). Reverse hands for the left side. This hold also helps boost OR CALM the immune system.
This exercise is to help the ascending energy up the back of the body.

The first two steps of self-help stomach flow (right energy pattern): Place your left fingers on the right cheekbone (SEL 21) and your right fingers on the right center of collar bone (SEL 22) . After a few minutes, move right hand to left base of rib cage (SEL 14). Reverse the hands for the left energy pattern.
