Jin Shin Jyutsu self help to clear the head and settle a queasy stomach
Headaches and nausea can often go together. Sometimes the head feels uncomfortably full, heavy, tight or foggy, and at the same time the stomach feels queasy or uncomfortable. This can happen when the energy in the head and waist is congested and not moving as freely as it should. Luckily, we can apply our hands as ‘jumper cables’ to specific areas on the body to ease these discomforts. That is the power of Jin Shin Jyutsu: that it can ease headache and nausea before they set in.

Use two Safety Energy Locks (energy sites)
Here is a quick hold that can help clear the head and ease nausea. It uses Safety Energy Locks 20 and then 14.
Safety Energy Lock 20 helps clear the head. We find it on the forehead, but in this case we place the hands higher, at the hairline. In Jin Shin Jyutsu we call this HI 20.
Safety Energy Lock 14 is located at the last ribs on the front of the rib cage, at the waistline. It helps harmonise the waist area and can be very useful when the stomach feels uncomfortable and/or when there is nausea.
I also like to combine the exercise below with this one (you can practice it before working with SEL 20 and 14 for extra relief): Ease the Discomfort of Brain Stress with Jin Shin Jyutsu
The following exercise is also great for migraines.
The Jin Shin Jyutsu exercise
Position 1 – Working with SEL 20 (HI 20)
Cross the hands.
Place the left fingers on the right side of the top of the forehead, at the hairline.
Place the right fingers on the left side of the top of the forehead, at the hairline.
Relax the shoulders, soften the hands and simply hold.
Stay here for 2–3 minutes, or until there is relief.

If the nausea does not settle within a minute or so, then change the position of the hands so that the fingers are pointing down.
If this is difficult to do, then hold one side at a time. Place one hand on one side of the hairline, relax, and hold. Then change to the other side. If you do one side at a time, then you could place the other hand on the same side SEL 14 at the waist.
There is no need to press or massage. Just place the fingers gently and allow the body to receive the help.

Position 2 – Working with SEL 14
Now place the left hand on the left last rib at the waist, where we find Safety Energy Lock 14.
At the same time, place the right hand on the right last rib at the waist, on the right Safety Energy Lock 14.
Relax the hands and hold.
Stay here for 2–3 minutes, or until there is relief.
This second position can be especially helpful when you feel nausea, digestive discomfort or that unsettled feeling in the stomach.

When to use this Jin Shin Jyutsu self help
You can use this Jin Shin Jyutsu quick hold when the head feels heavy, full or uncomfortable, and when nausea appears at the same time.
It can be helpful when travelling, after too much screen time, when the head feels overwhelmed, or when the body simply needs a few quiet minutes to settle. So you don’t always have to experience headache and nausea to get the benefit of this exercise. Practicing this regularly will keep the energy moving around the head and keep the waist line clear.
As always with Jin Shin Jyutsu self help, the key is to keep it simple. Hold lightly, breathe naturally, and give the body time to harmonise.
If symptoms are severe, unusual, sudden, or do not improve, please seek appropriate medical advice.
