Jin Shin Jyutsu for poor memory
As we go through life, we all sometimes experience moments of forgetfulness. Whether it’s misplacing keys, struggling to remember someone’s name, or failing to recall why we walked into a room. The good news is that with Jin Shin Jyutsu we can improve poor memory. But why does it happen, and what can we do about it?
In this post, I share a Jin Shin Jyutsu hold to help boost memory, improve circulation in the brain, and promote a sense of calm. If you’re looking for quick and effective self help then you’re in the right place.

Why do we experience poor memory?
According to Healthline.com, poor memory, or brain fog as it is also called, can arise for a variety of reasons, including:
- Lack of Sleep: Sleep is crucial for our memory. When we don’t get enough rest, our cognitive function declines.
- Stress and Anxiety: When we are overwhelmed, our brain prioritizes stress responses over memory retrieval.
- Dehydration: The brain is 75% water, so even mild dehydration can affect concentration and recall.
- Nutrient Deficiencies: Essential vitamins and minerals like B vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and magnesium play an important role in cognitive function.
- Hormonal Changes: These can take place during pregnancy, causing short-term brain fog, and menopause, which can lead to forgetfulness, poor concentration, and cloudy thinking.
- Aging: As we get older, certain brain processes slow down, making memory lapses more common.
- Medications: Certain medications can also affect our cognitive function.
- Lack of Energy: In terms of Jin Shin Jyutsu, low energy levels can lead to mental fatigue, further impairing memory and focus.
The Jin Shin Jyutsu quick hold for memory
Jin Shin Jyutsu is a universal art which harmonises the life energy in the body by using the hands. One powerful self-help exercise, known as the Main Central Source of Life Exercise, can help support the deep energy in the body and enhance brain function.
When you practice the whole Main Central exercise you are helping all the energy in the body, from head to toes (descending energy – exhale) and toes to head (ascending energy – inhale). All our 144,000 energy functions are fed by Main Central so it is a very dynamic exercise to practice at any time.
However, if you want to target your memory, try this simple hold:
- Place your right hand on the top of your head, I like to rest my fingers in the center and
- Place your left fingers between your eyebrows on your forehead.
- Hold this position for a few minutes, breathing deeply and allowing your body to relax.
- Close your eyes if you like

This hold supports circulation in the brain and calms mental stress, making it particularly helpful for memory, focus, and even sleep issues. You can practice it anytime, but I find it especially comfortable while lying in bed with cushions supporting my arms. As my students know, my only rule is to be comfortable!
Other ways to improve memory
While Jin Shin Jyutsu is a wonderful tool for memory, you can also support it with other lifestyle habits:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink enough water daily to keep your brain functioning optimally.
- Exercise Regularly: Physical activity increases blood flow to the brain and supports cognitive health.
- Eat Brain-Boosting Foods: Include foods rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, and vitamins, such as blueberries, salmon, and nuts.
