Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help to Relieve Emotional Upset

Whenever I feel emotionally upset or stressed and need to calm down FAST, I do this great Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help Hold: I cross my arms and hold my elbows. Wrap right hand/fingers over the outside (or the crease) of the left elbow, and wrap the left hand/fingers over the outside (or crease) of the right elbow.  Close your eyes and breathe until you feel calmer.

All you need is a bit of privacy and a few minutes to restore calm and perspective… Try it out.

And when you feel calmer, use the Donna Eden zip up technique to cement the calm: all you need to do is ‘zip up’ your chakras from the base (pubic bone) all the way up the front to the mouth and ‘lock’.

This will protect your energy from outside attack and help you remain more grounded and strong.

Will talk more about Donna Eden’s zip up technique in a separate post – if you live in the city it is very useful to do this before you go out, and again when you come back home.

Q&A: Jin Shin Jyutsu to Open the Throat

Question: Hi Astrid – We have the book of Alice Burmeister ‘The Touch of Healing’. We also attended an introduction morning for JSJ. My wife has a particular problem with her esophagus, sometimes her food just does not go down. She has to lay down on the floor for some time to get things back to normal. Is there any flow and/or SEL that you can recommend to ease this problem? – from NZ

Answer: In a situation like this – ACUTE situation that is, I would immediately go for the EMERGENCY hold (choking, breathing difficulties, nausea, vomiting, sudden malaise) which is to place the hands on the inside of the knees (SEL 1). Can be with arms crossed or not – I personally like crossing my arms. See the 26 Safety Energy Locks Chart for the location. The ones are to be used in this kind of emergency because they MOVE THE ENERGY DOWN. Also helpful for this situation is to cross the arms and place the hands on the upper arms (SEL high 19s). This also opens up the energy sites on the back (9 and 10) and clears the chest area, as well as helping the digestive system. And finally, another helpful energy site is on the neck. Place the right hand on the right side of the neck next to the spine and the left hand on the left side of the neck next to the spine (SEL 12) – I had something stuck in my throat the other day and I found that it worked a treat!

For longterm ‘work’ on this ‘project’, there are many possible flows, but I would suggest The Jin Shin Jyutsu Trinity exercises, see these older posts on my blog for The Trinity Flows: Main Central, Left and Right Supervisors and Mediator (Crossing Energies)

Q&A: Jin Shin Jyutsu to help the Heart and Breathing

Question: My mum has been in hospital with difficulty breathing due to fluid on the lungs caused by an irregular heartbeat (well I think that’s what it was – doctors not very specific on cause), she also picked up a Urinary Tract Infection which is now under control. She’s at home now and while progressing I’d like to do as much as I can to give her the best quality of life. I’ve had the JSJ book – The Touch of Healing for some time and something moved me to get it out and have a read through it again. I’ve started doing the finger holds each day but would really appreciate your suggestions to strenghthen the heart and reduce fluid on the lungs. Also anything specific to help the breathing. Thank you so much for your very informative blog on JSJ – it’s such a beautiful gentle process. – JF

Answer: Dear JF – Holding the fingers is a GREAT start! You are helping your mother tremendously by holding them. Chapter 3 in The Touch of Healing talks about the Trinity Flows: The Main Central, Supervisors and Mediator. Supervisors are very easy and very powerful. See an older post here for The Jin Shin Jyutsu Trinity Flows.

Holding Opposite Fingers and Toes for Total Harmony

Towards the end of the book, there is a chapter called Harmonising with the Fingers and Toes. Go to Palms and Soles: Revitalising the Entire Being. Read through that whole section and especially the thumbs and opposite little toesthis sequence is for difficulty breathing and irregular heartbeat. The whole harmonising exercise is quite simple to do on another person: sit on the right side of your mother (make sure you are comfortable and relaxed), and with your left hand, hold her left thumb. With your right hand, hold her right little toe. Hold for a few minutes, until you feel a ryhthmic pulse that might start banging quite loudly for a while. Let it settle down, then move onto the next finger and toe. With your left hand, hold the left index finger, and with your right hand hold right ring toe. Hold for a few minutes. Then move onto the middle finger and opposite middle toe, then to the ring finger and opposite index toe, then to the little finger and opposite big toe.

You could do each finger and toe for 5 minutes each on one side which is 25 minutes (as a guide use the pulse as well!) and then sit on the left side and reverse the hands. This exercise is very powerful and it is such a gift to receive it, especially because it’s not that comfortable to do as self help!

So I hope this is helpful. If you have any further questions or doubts just send me an email.

Finally, if there is ANY pain during this exercise that lasts more than a few seconds, then STOP what you are doing and go to the PAIN HOLD until it clears – PAIN is a good sign that the energy is moving – but there’s no reason to have to suffer unduly!
