Our 26 ‘Friends’

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, we work with Safety Energy Locks – 26 energy sites located throughout the body. These are not points but spherical areas of concentrated energy, about the size of a tennis ball in three-dimensional terms. When we place our hands and connect with them, they help release tension and restore harmony on every level: mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual.

Mary Burmeister, one of the foremost teachers of Jin Shin Jyutsu, often referred to these energy sites as our “truest friends.” They support the body by releasing stagnation and encouraging the natural flow of energy from head to toes and toes to head. We want to keep the energy flowing without obstuction, because when the energy becomes blocked or sluggish, discomfort, stress and tension can follow.

Why This Jin Shin Jyutsu Hold Helps the Stomach

Stomach pain or cramping is sometimes linked to tension that has accumulated in the back rather than directly in the abdomen. By helping the back release, we can bring ease to the front of the body.

To do this, we use Safety Energy Lock 23, located on the small of the back at the level of the last rib.

How to Find and Hold Safety Energy Lock 23

Place your left hand on your right last rib on the front of the body.

Keeping that level in mind, place your right hand on the small of your back at the same height – this is where we find Safety Energy Lock 23 on the right side.

Now place your left hand on the same area on the left side.

Gently hold both sides – left and right 23 – at the small of the back. There is no need to apply any pressure: just place and relax the hands.

This simple hold helps release tension, relaxing the body and calming the mind. It also supports brain function and overall energy flow. This self-help hold also helps energise the adrenals, showing just how versatile and important Safety Energy Lock 23 can be.

How Long to Hold

Stay in this position until you feel relief – this may take a few seconds, a couple of minutes, or longer. Allow the tension to melt and the body to soften. This hold can also be used anytime you need a moment of relaxation or soothing, even if you aren’t experiencing stomach discomfort.
