Jin Shin Jyutsu Energy Centers
Did you know that the Source of Energy for all the trillions of cells in the body is located in the centers of the palms? In Jin Shin Jyutsu, the energy in this part of the hands is dynamic and we can work with it in a very simple way. With just your own two hands, you can tap into a built-in energy source that’s always available. You will need no tools, no special setting, no complicated instructions. Just you and your hands to transform moments of DO-ing into BE-ing (more on that later).

Despondency and fatigue
When you place your fingers on the center of your palms, you’re not just working on that area. By using this easy Jin Shin Jyutsu hold, you’re influencing your entire being on all levels. As I said, there is a connection with all the cells in the body so the effects can be felt on a physical, mental/emotional, digestive and/or spiritual level. Best of all, you can use this practice to restore balance throughout the day. All it takes is a few minutes!
For instance, when I feel despondent or fatigued, I can hold the center of the palms.
Despondency is different from depression, but it can lead to it if we don’t lift ourselves out of the gloom. Despondency is a state of low spirits and is often brought on by a setback, disappointment, or loss of confidence.
It can leave us feeling discouraged and unmotivated, but it’s usually temporary if we take steps to lift our spirits. Working with the Jin Shin Jyutsu energy in the center of the palms helps us restore a sense of stability and quiet optimism. It’s a simple way to stop that downward spiral and create space for energy and enthusiasm for life to return.
Easy Jin Shin Jyutsu energy hold
The wonderful thing about this easy Jin Shin Jyutsu hold is that we can do this anytime, anywhere. On the train, at your desk, in bed before sleep, and anytime you find that your hands are free.
Holding center of palms in Jin Shin Jyutsu can also be useful when we experience:
- Fatigue or low energy
- Digestive or elimination discomfort
- Eye strain
- Breathing difficulty or shallow breathing
- Appetite imbalances
- Worries about the heart
- Cold feet (even in warm weather)
- Mental fog or can’t think straight
- Feeling unsettled due to electromagnetic radiation or solar flare activity
Different ways to practice

place left fingers on the center of the right palm and
place right fingers on the center of the left palm.
Relax the hands and hold for a few minutes, or as long as you like!
You can do both hands at once, or first one hand then the other
Whatever is most comfortable for you.
Using the Thumb:

Thumb on the center of the palm:
Slide palm of left thumb onto right center of palm.
Relax and hold, then

Either method works to activate the flow of Jin Shin Jyutsu energy throughout your whole being.
Mary Burmeister on Happiness
Mary Burmeister, one of Master Jiro Murai’s most dedicated students and the person who brought Jin Shin Jyutsu to the West, used to say: BE happiness. She reminded us that there are no “ways” to happiness. Happiness simply IS. And in the pursuit of happiness it is sometimes good to be happy.
When we sit quietly and hold the center of our palms, we make space for the happiness, which is our natural state of being, to come forth.
In that space, there’s no worry, no fear, no anger, no grief, and no effort – just BE-ing.
And yet, so often we forget how to simply be. We’ve become human “DO-ers or DO-ings” instead of human “BE-ings.”
But when we sit with Jin Shin Jyutsu energy flowing through the center of our palms, we return to our natural state. We become the breath itself, feeling the inhale and the exhale come into balance. And in that balance… all is well.
