An Ancient Art of Harmonising the Life Energy

On Flows For Life you’ll find a whole lot of Self Help Holds as I call them, which are based on an Ancient Japanese Art called Jin Shin Jyutsu (pronounced as ‘jitsoo’).

I often describe Jin Shin Jyutsu as a form of ‘Acupuncture with the fingers’, but it involves no manipulation, pressure or massage, so it is safe for every body from 0-100+ years of age!

This ancient Art harmonises and balances the life energy in the body by using the fingers and hands (over clothing) to alleviate symptoms of discomfort and disharmony.

This ‘energy medicine’ is a gentle, yet effective and powerful tool for health and well-being which is simple to learn, and the beneficial effects are usually felt immediately.

You don’t have to create or believe anything for it to work.

By putting your hands on specific parts of the body, and connecting with the corresponding ‘energy sites’ you are working with your energy and activating and facilitating the flow of energy to help speed up the body’s natural ability to regenerate and heal itself.

Introducing the awareness of this Art engages one in self study and self help. Through the process of ‘Now Know (Help) MYSELF’ we recognise the wisdom of the body, and we learn to interpret the messages provided and utilize them to restore balance. Jin Shin Jyutsu can be applied by a practitioner, but it is also dynamic as self help.

I find it VERY cool that this powerful aid is ready and available to every single one of us. Just by knowing where to put your hands on your body you can manage your everyday stresses and pains, restore and maintain your energy levels, boost your immune system, and much more, to feel and look better every day!

JSJ Relationship Fingers, Energy Sites and Attitudes

Even if we’ve never heard of the ancient art of Jin Shin Jyutsu, we most often naturally place our hands unconsciously on our body when we need help in a certain area. Isn’t it therefore great to consciously KNOW where to put our hands to HELP MYSELF?

This is a quick summary of the relationship between the fingers, the corresponding key energy site and attitude:

Finger                   Energy Site (there is a left and right side)              (SEL)      Attitude (Emotion)
Thumb                  Forehead above the eyebrows                                   20          WORRY

Index                    Just below the collarbone                                            22           FEAR

Middle                  Third rib down on the chest                                        13           ANGER

Ring                       Last rib before the abdomen                                       14           GRIEF

Little                      Groin either side of pubic bone                                 15           TRYING TO

For a full Jin Shin Jyutsu Self help session you could spend a whole hour holding these five energy sites placing the left hand on the left side, and the right hand on the right side (it means spending about 10 minutes on each energy site).  A great way to start or end the day!

Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help Hold to Help the Eyes

A simple self help hold which helps the eyes is to grab the middle finger. The middle finger also relates to the gallbladder, the liver and the emotion of anger. When you feel angry, I say: ‘Don’t SHOW the finger, HOLD the finger!’

Reading, or working constantly on computers overloads the eyes and tires them. Sit or lie comfortably and hold your middle finger (either side will do) – put on some music if you like – and just let yourself relax.

Holding the middle finger is really helpful to regulate high or low blood pressure. I have said this in other posts but it is such a simple and effective way to help the blood function, that I mention it again here as a reminder!

Oh and if your eyes are giving you problems, especially if you have blue or green eyes, make sure you consume good old fashioned FENNEL, as it strengthens the eyes. You can have it in powder capsules, chew on the seeds, have tea or eat the fresh bulb. Fennel is also great at cleaning out the large intestine and gives you clean breath….It’s an all around winner, and very strengthening for your whole system!

So as a summary again, holding the middle finger helps:

  • regulate blood pressure (high or low)
  • general fatigue
  • eyes, vision
  • irritability
  • balance emotions
  • liver and gallbladder energy
  • when have to READ a lot/ or do computer work

Q&A: Any Jin Shin Jyutsu Holds for the Legs

Question: I am having trouble with my right leg. It goes numb and tingles.  It starts from my toes now its all the way up to my leg. This only happens when I sit down on my bed. Awaiting your response.  This is a great concern of mine.  I would be very grateful if you can help me.

Answer: Numbness in the feet – yes, i sometimes have that too when I’ve been sitting too long at the computer!

Reflexology would be a wonderful way to release the tension, not only in the feet but also in the rest of the body, or you might want to have a session with an Osteopath or a Mctimoney Chiropractor to release the tension, which I think might be coming from the sacrum or the lower back…

However, in terms of JSJ holds, there are a couple of things you can do.
To help the feet, with left hand, hold right little toe, while you place your right fingers on the outside of the right heel just below the ankle bone. This is the the energy site number 16. Reverse the hands for the other side.

See the link for all the 26 Safety Energy Locks

Another helpful Jin Shin Jyutsu hold for the feet is: hold right 16  with left fingers, and place right hand/fingers on the outside of the right calf muscle on the bone about 2 inches down from the knee – hold until you feel a pulse then hold until the pulse settles down, then hold again for a while (at least 20 minutes)

Also do Main Central Exercise every day if you can; especially the last position where you hold the pubic bone and the coccyx
