Our most powerful tools for health and wellbeing are our hands. Knowing how to use them really can make a difference in our lives!
There have been many times over the years that I have used different self help holds to nip potential issues in the bud, as it were. For example, when I feel a headache coming on, when my eyes are sore, when my back starts to hurt, when my neck feels stiff, when I eat something that doesn’t agree with me, when I have muscle cramp, etc etc etc. Using these holds in the moment releases and moves whatever is going on, usually immediately.
So here is my first video of the ‘In the Moment’ series –
Question: Can Jin Shin Jyutsu help with Colitis Ulcerosa?
Answer: Yes, Jin Shin Jyutsu is a great way to calm any digestive disorder or discomfort. Below are links to different self-help exercises. I have also read some studies showing that Homeopathic medicine (in particular Spagiric Homeopathy) in combination with BioResonance treatments (which could be Jin Shin Jyutsu treatments) have successfully helped Colitis Ulcerosa. I suggest looking for a homeopath and jin shin jyutsu practitioner in your local area for major benefits.
What is Colitis Ulcerosa or Ulcerative Colitis?
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammation of the large intestine or colon. In people with ulcerative colitis, ulcers and inflammation of the inner lining of the colon lead to symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. The cause is not known but what happens is that the immune system goes berserk in the intestines (inflammation is an important defence mechanism by the immune system). THE FOLLOWING EXERCISES CAN HELP ALLEVIATE ANY DIGESTIVE DISORDER, PAIN OR DISCOMFORT – however, if you feel uncomfortable during these exercises discontinue doing them for a while, then try again for a few minutes each time. Experiment and listen to what your body is telling you!
Do these two exercises as often as possible:
To clear the front (especially during a flare up) place the left hand over the right shoulder (SEL 11) and the right hand on the sitting-bone (buttock SEL 25) with palm up. Reverse hands for the left side. This exercise is to help the descending energy down the front of the body.
To clear the back, place the left hand over the right shoulder (SEL 11) and the right hand on the groin (SEL 15). Reverse hands for the left side. This hold also helps boost OR CALM the immune system. This exercise is to help the ascending energy up the back of the body.
See the link to the chart of the 26 Safety Energy Locks
The first two steps of self-help stomach flow (right energy pattern): Place your left fingers on the right cheekbone (SEL 21) and your right fingers on the right center of collar bone (SEL 22) . After a few minutes, move right hand to left base of rib cage (SEL 14). Reverse the hands for the left energy pattern.

Main Central Source of Life (especially positions L5, L6 and L7)
The Spleen Flow (for energy, calm, healthy immune system and digestion). Also hold your fingers
As Mary Burmeister used to say: ‘There are no ‘shoulds’ or ‘have tos’. Simply hold each position in your most comfortable way. The art of LIVING is simple and you are the ‘artist’.
I know things are challenging at the moment, to say the least. Many of us are experiencing fear and anxiety about the future. We all have a road map of what is safe, and that road map is changing every day. I am also facing these challenges, as are people around me. What I do also know is that Jin Shin Jyutsu helps keep my energy up, and it keeps me focused in the PRESENT – and remember that Jane Roberts channeled the wise Seth in the seventies who said: ‘Your Point of Power is in the Present’. The main thing is: Keep BREATHING – one breath at a time – it comes and it goes – no effort – be present, and remember: focus on this moment – in this precise moment you are alive and breathing – hold a finger and GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD – ALL IS WELL.
TO GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD – work with the 20, 21, 22 Flow of Text 1 on page 32 (work on the right side first). The self-help holds in layman’s terms are: left hand on left neck (SEL 12) and right hand on right forehead (SEl 20), then move right hand to right cheek (SEL 21) then move the right hand to the right clavicle (SEL 22). The Stomach Flow, and Spleen Flows are also helpful (Mary also includes these two flows in her self-help book 1 and it also appears towards the back in The Touch of Healing under General Daily Sequences).
Question: I have had psoriasis for 30 years now. It started as a teen (16), and has continued to worsen over the years. I have tried conventional topical medications. Most do not work totally, just keep the symptoms at bay. I have done much ‘research’ over the years for alternative treatments for psoriasis. Recently I have had my first Jin Shin Jyutsu session. What are some holds that I can do at home in between JSJ sessions? I am currently using a strong topical steroid spray, that has the potential to affect my adrenal glands if I use too much. This is a topic for concern also. Thank you for posting this information.
Answer: A simple and powerful way to help yourself in this instance is to hold your thumb. Whenever and where ever you find that your hands are free – watching TV, waiting for a bus, you’ll never be bored again, as these are perfect opportunities to give yourself a treatment! Then there is the powerful self-help exercise of the Main Central – especially steps L4 and L5 which help to deepen your breathing, boost your immune system and help the adrenals (L5). A good practice is to take an hour out each day for the Main Central Source of Life exercise – especially if you have a specific Jin Shin Jyutsu ‘project’ to work on, but just a few minutes in the morning and a few minutes at night working on these two ‘points’ will help ‘clean house’ in between Jin Shin Jyutsu treatments! One more hold which is particularly linked to breathing and the skin is the Lung Function Energy – the first position of this hold is: left fingers on left SEL 14 (or the last left rib before the abdominal cavity) and the right fingers on left SEL 22 (or the left clavicle). And finally, ask your Jin Shin Jytusu practitioner to show you the first 2-3 steps of the Stomach Flow, which I think will also help, as well as the Spleen Flow (which I advise you do once a day as well – doesn’t have to take long). So lots you can do for yourself! I hope this is helpful. – Astrid

And finally, Psoriasis is a non-contagious common condition of the skin that causes rapid skin cell reproduction resulting in red, dry patches of thickened skin. The dry flakes and skin scales are thought to result from the buildup of the rapid production of skin cells. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the elbows, knees, scalp, and ears.
The immune system is thought to play a major role. Despite research over the past 30 years looking at many triggers, the ‘master switch’ that turns on psoriasis is still a mystery. – From Medicinenet
Often I have asked myself why Mary Burmeister chose the Spleen flow, the Stomach flow and the Bladder flow as the three energy organ function flows in Self Help book 1.
The Spleen flow is a general revitaliser (for me, there was life before the Spleen flow and life after it – two very different realities, I can tell you!). Having energy means it’s easier to stay calm.
The Stomach flow helps the energies move down the front and the Bladder flow helps the energies move down the back. So that is the clue: moving the energy down from the head – to get you out of your head!
Mary believed that the biggest block to harmony is the MIND. That’s one of the reasons why she chose these flows for all of us to use with humility and awe every day.
Thank you, Mary.
