Self Help to Beat Fatigue and the Heat

Fatigue colours our world and affects how we feel, and Jin Shin Jyutsu is one of the most powerful ways to overcome fatigue.

Time after time, I have tried and tested these holds and it is absolutely amazing how my whole world can change in 20 minutes – purely because I have been able to energise myself. And if I can, you can too with this simple exercise.

The Spleen energy governs our energy levels and this exercise is very powerful for vitality and calm (one needs energy to stay calm, believe it or not!) – 20 minutes minimum every day.

The Spleen is the biggest lymphatic organ in the body and if kept happy, helps all the other organs.

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, a sequence of HOLDS is referred to as a FLOW. The following self-help flow can be used to revitalise and re-energise the whole system, and to be ‘happy and content where ever you are’. Use it to regulate the body’s temperature (to warm the body when it’s cold, to cool the body when it’s hot), and to balance the nervous system (to calm).

Hold each step for a few minutes or until you feel you want to move to the next position. Tip: put on a chill out CD and when the track changes, move the hands to the next position… The music can add a wonderful dimension to the session…

(Right energy pattern)
Step 1
Place Left hand on base of spine (coccyx)
Place Right hand on right inside of heel
Step 2
Move Right hand and place on left base of rib cage and hold
Step 3
Move Left hand and place on right above breast area
Step 4
Move Left hand and place on left center of collar bone

So to summarise: the Spleen flow helps beat fatigue, insomnia, headaches, anxiety and much more. It stimulates the immune system, helps the digestive system, helps regulate our body temperature (you can use it to warm and to cool the body – isn’t that great?) – this flow also helps the skin, helps beat the attitude of WORRY and well, it’s just a great general all round wonder flow – use it with HUMILITY AND GRATITUDE!

Q&A: Any Jin Shin Jyutsu Holds for Mono?

Jin Shin Jyutsu Immune Hold
Immune Hold

Question: Hi Astrid! I have used  your site many times. Thank you. I have Alice’s book but borrowed it out. I would like to know if there is  a hold for mono. My daughter has very infected tonsills and can barely swallow.  Saw the doc yesterday and we had her blood taken and it is mono, wondering if there is any hold. I have done ankles for pain and right hand over left for the throat infection. Thanks

Mono, or mononucleosis is a viral infection.  Also called the ‘kissing disease’ it can be spread by saliva. The incubation period for infectious mononucleosis is 4 to 8 weeks. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, sore throat, and swollen lymph glands. It can cause liver inflammation (hepatitis) and spleen enlargement. (from medicinenet)

Since the immune system is compromised, it is important to do the immune hold:  Place the left hand over the right shoulder and right hand on right groin. Do for 20 minutes minimum. Reverse the hands for the other side (see  the diagram in this post).

Also, the Trinity Flows: Main Central, Supervisors left and right and Mediator (Main Central being the most important one) and also very important,  since the spleen is the largest lymphatic organ in the body, the Spleen Flow . She should have a Spleen Flow Session every day, and twice a day would be even better until her tonsils are back to normal.  If she is old enough, teach her the flow so that she can do it too!

For me, there was life before Spleen Flow and life after. I also suffered a lot from tonsillitis when I was younger and  I still have them!

Jin Shin Jyutsu to Warm the Body

While many of us are using Jin Shin Jyutsu self help holds to COOL the body this summer, there are others in the Southern hemisphere who are trying to WARM the body.

For those of you who are going into winter and want to stay warm, here are some Jin Shin Jyutsu tips:

1. To warm the body (or to cool the body) have a look at this older post Spleen Flow

2. The Mediator Flow is great to regulate the temperature in the body (KEY: energy site number 23 in the small of the back left and right side)

3. Safety Energy Lock 8 (on the outside of the knees) – left side see the Safety Energy Locks Chart

4. Hold the little finger – helps the FIRE energy in the body

I heard Jed Schwartz say in one of the Jin Shin Jyutsu 5 Day Basic Seminars, that Master Jiro Murai only ever wore a wool tunic – whether it was 10 or 90 degrees. He would use Jin Shin Jyutsu holds to regulate his body temperature. Isn’t that cool?

Q&A: Jin Shin Jyutsu To Keep You Cool This Summer

Question: ‘I wanted to know whether there are specific holds that can help for people like me who cannot take the heat literally: (meaning that my body doesn’t seem to be able to cool down anymore when the temperature rises to above 25 degrees celcius for a couple of days). I thrive when the temperature is at around 18-22, but my internal airco seems to break down when we have a couple of consecutive days of sunny hot weather. The symptoms are that I feel a constant light pressure around my head and my eyes and my face turns all red and feels flushed and overheated, I become all sweaty, my feet start to overheat and swell up, and all these symptoms last until the temperature goes down (I’m a nordic type – blonde, blue eyes, pale skin, burn easily) … You can imagine that every time there is a heat wave predicted here, I really really hope that it won’t last for more than a few days…Any advice to deal with this with the help of JSJ holds would be more than welcome. A from Belgium

Answer: Summer is fun but summer is also difficult for many of us who can’t take the heat very well. So when I discovered that Jin Shin Jyutsu could help me regulate my body temperature, I was overjoyed! Jed Schwartz mentioned in a class that Master Jiro Murai only ever wore a wool tunic – come heat or cold. He regulated his body temperature with his hands! And so can you –

So here are some Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help Holds for staying cool this summer: 1. Self Help Hold for the Deep Skin

2. There is an energy site on the outside of the knee and one of it’s main functions is to regulate the temperature in the body. It is energy site (SEL) number 8. Hold the right one to cool the body, hold the left one to warm the body. I always forget which one is which so I just hold them both, and the body knows what to do!!!

3. Try also this following sequence of steps to help regulate the temperature in the body – use it to cool the body down or to warm the body up. See this older post Self Help Flow to Cool the Body
