Jin Shin Jyutsu®: An Art Available to All

When I meet new people and they ask me: ‘What do you do?’ and I say that I am a Jin Shin Jyutsu Practitioner, they invariably look at me blankly and say: ‘Oh, I’ve never heard of that.’ To which I answer: ‘It’s an Art of healing, the principles of which are as old as mankind and it was rediscovered in Japan about a hundred years ago.’

Then they, quite rightly, ask: ‘Oh, is it like Reiki?’ and I say (and this is my own perspective since I have studied and practised both): ‘Jin Shin Jyutsu and Reiki both work with subtle energies, but there the similarity ends for me.’

If they are still interested, I proceed to explain that, as JSJ Practitioners (working hands-on the body over clothing), our aim is to harmonise the life energy (and all 144,000 energy functions) by using a system of 26 energy sites, found on the left and right sides which are mirror images of each other, so we have, in fact, access to 52 ‘energy sites’ (officially called Safety Energy Locks or SELs for short). We also make use of the fingers and toes which, when held, activate and regenerate all those energy functions.

The next question is often: ‘Do you use pressure, or is it like a massage?’ So I show them that the touch we use is gentle – no pressure, massage or manipulation is needed: ‘This is a dynamic touch therapy. As we connect with the specific locations of the 26 energy sites, we facilitate the body’s own healing ability. The body is capable of healing itself, but this really does speed up the process. In essence, it relaxes, rebalances, repairs and regenerates the whole system, on every level – physically, mentally, emotionally, and, yes, spiritually.’

Usually the reaction at this point goes something like this: ‘That sounds fascinating.’ And I say: ‘Yes, it is. The most wonderful thing about Jin Shin Jyutsu is that it is available to each and every one of us! We all have the ability to use this Art in our everyday lives, and all I ‘do’ is introduce the awareness of it by offering individual sessions, talks and self help classes. In fact, there are many practitioners around the world who offer self help classes. The self help is simple and FUN to learn. It’s as easy as holding a finger!’

What is Jin Shin Jyutsu? Part 1

Jin Shin Jyutsu, ‘The Art of the Creator through the Man of Knowing and Compassion’ is an ancient healing art which was rediscovered in Japan by Master Jiro Murai in the early 1900s.

Introduction
I often describe Jin Shin Jyutsu as ‘Acupuncture with the fingers’, but it involves no manipulation, pressure or massage, so it is safe for every body from 0-100+ years of age. This ancient healing Art harmonises and balances the life energy in the body by using the fingers and hands (over clothing) to alleviate symptoms of discomfort and disharmony. This ‘energy medicine’ is a gentle, yet powerful tool for health and well-being which is simple to learn and has immediate benefit. Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu engages one in self study, self help. Through the process of ‘Now Know MYSELF’ we recognize the wisdom of the body, and we learn to interpret the messages provided and utilize them to restore balance. Jin Shin Jyutsu can be applied by a practitioner, but it is also powerful and effective as self help.


The Jin Shin Jyutsu Treatment (by a Practitioner)
The client lies face up and fully clothed. The JSJ practitioner uses light touch on the body over particular energy sites called
Safety Energy Locks along energy pathways. Two energy sites are held simultaneously until the tension or congestion is released. Then one hand is moved to another energy site, and along areas of the body where there is tension. Each energy site can take seconds or minutes to release and re-energise. Treatments generally take 45 minutes to an hour. Repeated treatments depend on the individual and the particular situation. Often it is for no particular ‘problem’, but as a preventative ‘tune up’ or just to treat oneself to a nurturing, relaxing and revitalising hour. After several Jin Shin Jyutsu treatments, a person can really feel the difference and has a sense of real balance and vitality, so they are better able to distinguish when they are out of balance.
