Fatigue colours our world and affects how we feel, and Jin Shin Jyutsu is one of the most powerful ways to overcome fatigue.

Time after time, I have tried and tested these holds and it is absolutely amazing how my whole world can change in 20 minutes – purely because I have been able to energise myself. And if I can, you can too with this simple exercise.

The Spleen energy governs our energy levels and this exercise is very powerful for vitality and calm (one needs energy to stay calm, believe it or not!) – 20 minutes minimum every day.

The Spleen is the biggest lymphatic organ in the body and if kept happy, helps all the other organs.

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, a sequence of HOLDS is referred to as a FLOW. The following self-help flow can be used to revitalise and re-energise the whole system, and to be ‘happy and content where ever you are’. Use it to regulate the body’s temperature (to warm the body when it’s cold, to cool the body when it’s hot), and to balance the nervous system (to calm).

Hold each step for a few minutes or until you feel you want to move to the next position. Tip: put on a chill out CD and when the track changes, move the hands to the next position… The music can add a wonderful dimension to the session…

GENERAL ENERGY REVITALISING FLOW (Spleen Flow)
(Right energy pattern)
Step 1
Place Left hand on base of spine (coccyx)
Place Right hand on right inside of heel
Step 2
Move Right hand and place on left base of rib cage and hold
Step 3
Move Left hand and place on right above breast area
Step 4
Move Left hand and place on left center of collar bone

So to summarise: the Spleen flow helps beat fatigue, insomnia, headaches, anxiety and much more. It stimulates the immune system, helps the digestive system, helps regulate our body temperature (you can use it to warm and to cool the body – isn’t that great?) – this flow also helps the skin, helps beat the attitude of WORRY and well, it’s just a great general all round wonder flow – use it with HUMILITY AND GRATITUDE!

I was reminded in the last few days how I found Jin Shin Jyutsu in the first place: through the debilitating migraines that I used to suffer. Last week I was sitting in front of the computer and PRESTO! started getting the tell tale zig zag signs in front of my eyes.

I immediately closed my eyes and held the base of the thumb – that didn’t do too much, so I went to the outside of my heels (just under the ankles) and held the left one with the left hand, and the right one with the right hand. That started ‘opening’ up this zig zag lightning bolt…then I went back to the base of the thumb (held the left one with the right fingers). Then I also held the back of the head – I dug my fingers in where it was sore and held for a while until there was a strong pulse. Then I went back to the outside of the heels.

Within 20 minutes it was all gone, and I went back to the computer. Isn’t it great to be able to manage pain so quickly and easily? The body knows how.

Do you have a similar Jin Shin Jyutsu story you would like to share? Just send me an email: jsjholds@gmail.com I’d love to hear from you.

See also older post on this blog Self help for Headache and Migraine

Pain anywhere in the body colours your day very differently from when you are pain-free. A headache, toothache, ear ache, back pain, knee pain, nerve pain, ANY PAIN, can be alleviated with the Jin Shin Jyutsu hold for pain relief. It is as powerful as morphine. Obviously, continuous pain that won’t go away needs to be checked by a physician, but while you wait for them to treat you, there is something empowering that YOU can do for YOURSELF.

I started suffering from debilitating migraines approximately ten years ago, (when I was going ‘against my grain’ of course). I took ibuprofen on a regular basis, not to alleviate the migraines, but to prevent them.

At the time, I was already studying holistic and complementary therapies, and I came to the conclusion very quickly that this was ‘not a good idea’. My search began for a natural therapy that would cure my migraines.

An acquaintance suggested I try Jin Shin Jyutsu. I looked at him blankly and said: ‘Gin what?’ He lent me the book A Touch of Healing by Alice Burmeister, and a whole new world opened up to me. A world, where I began to Get to KNOW (Help) MYSELF. It was so wonderfully simple, and so effective. After a time, I was able to clear my migraines in minutes. They then became more infrequent, then more rare, then they stopped.

To alleviate headaches and migraines, place your fingers at the base of your thumb. Use the right hand fingers on the left base of thumb or vice versa. Hold for a few minutes, or until there is relief. Do this first step in the case of a migraine, and then hold the outsides of the heels (place the right fingers on the right heel just below the ankle and the same on the left side).

Also, drink lots of water, cut down on starches and avoid typical ‘trigger’ foods like: coffee, alcohol (especially red wine), oranges, chocolate and very spicey foods.
