Beat Fatigue: Self Help Hold for Crossing Energies

There have been a few times in my life when I have been overwhelmed by a sudden fatigue. I have subsequently discovered that when the crossing energies in the body are overloaded, fatigue can occur.

The crossing energies go from left to right and right to left – they ‘mediate’ and ‘supervise’ the energies of the left and right sides of our body.

They also supply the whole BEING, so it is really important to keep them functioning properly.

So to harmonise and re-energise these crossing or ‘Mediating’ energies, do this exercise until you feel relief! I find it really comfortable to do this exercise lying down in bed with pillows and cushions where I need them.

The left side flow:
Place the right hand over the left shoulder. At the same time, place the left thumb over the left ring fingernail to make a circle.  At the same time, bring the knees together (this helps the ‘supervisory left energy). (see the image)

The right side flow:
Place the left hand over the right shoulder. At the same time, place the right thumb over the right ring fingernail to make a circle.  At the same time, bring the knees together (this helps the supervisory right energy).

Enjoy!

Self Help Hold to Beat Fatigue and More

This self help hold is supremely powerful. Use with humility and awe.

Helps with depletion of energy (so when there is utter exhaustion) AND overload of energy (so calms when you wake up at night and can’t go back to sleep). This self help hold helps the crossing energies, helps clear the chest and the waist, helps protect the  heart. Also useful for coughs and the voice.

Master Mary Burmeister never really preferred any one hold above another, but I’ve been told that she called this one ‘a little gem’. Use it, and enjoy it.

Self Help to Beat Fatigue and the Heat

Fatigue colours our world and affects how we feel, and Jin Shin Jyutsu is one of the most powerful ways to overcome fatigue.

Time after time, I have tried and tested these holds and it is absolutely amazing how my whole world can change in 20 minutes – purely because I have been able to energise myself. And if I can, you can too with this simple exercise.

The Spleen energy governs our energy levels and this exercise is very powerful for vitality and calm (one needs energy to stay calm, believe it or not!) – 20 minutes minimum every day.

The Spleen is the biggest lymphatic organ in the body and if kept happy, helps all the other organs.

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, a sequence of HOLDS is referred to as a FLOW. The following self-help flow can be used to revitalise and re-energise the whole system, and to be ‘happy and content where ever you are’. Use it to regulate the body’s temperature (to warm the body when it’s cold, to cool the body when it’s hot), and to balance the nervous system (to calm).

Hold each step for a few minutes or until you feel you want to move to the next position. Tip: put on a chill out CD and when the track changes, move the hands to the next position… The music can add a wonderful dimension to the session…

GENERAL ENERGY REVITALISING FLOW (Spleen Flow)
(Right energy pattern)
Step 1
Place Left hand on base of spine (coccyx)
Place Right hand on right inside of heel
Step 2
Move Right hand and place on left base of rib cage and hold
Step 3
Move Left hand and place on right above breast area
Step 4
Move Left hand and place on left center of collar bone

So to summarise: the Spleen flow helps beat fatigue, insomnia, headaches, anxiety and much more. It stimulates the immune system, helps the digestive system, helps regulate our body temperature (you can use it to warm and to cool the body – isn’t that great?) – this flow also helps the skin, helps beat the attitude of WORRY and well, it’s just a great general all round wonder flow – use it with HUMILITY AND GRATITUDE!

How to Lose Weight with Jin Shin Jyutsu

Now that Spring is here, many of us are looking to shed a few winter pounds…and I know that we need all the help we can get.

The good news is that there are two energy sites on the body (four if you count the right and left sides) that help with weight loss.

The first one is right under the cheeckbone on the face (energy site number 21). Hold the RIGHT side of the face just under the cheeckbone (near the nose) for weight LOSS, hold the LEFT side of face on the cheeckbone for weight GAIN. If you forget which side is which, hold both sides and the body will adjust itself to what it needs. It will! The body is very clever that way.

The other two energy sites are on the right and left  sitting bones (number 25). Sit on your hands (with the palms up) at least 20 minutes a day to stay fit, to take lactic acid out of the muscles after exercising, and to lose volume from the hip and thigh area. It also tones the body.

Both these exercises can be done in front  of the TV, or for a more meditative experience, sit or lie quietly with your eyes  closed.

Q&A: Jin Shin Jyutsu for Dysthymia

Question: Hi Astrid – I would like to make a question and don´t know how to do without coming to the ‘comment’ area. I had a diagnostic that told I have dysthymia. I would like to know what flows are more effective for that. Thank you, LM

Answer: Dear LM, thanks for your email and I hope this answer helps you. Keep working on it and let me know how you get on. Take care, Astrid

What is Dysthymia?
For those who don’t know, and I was one of them because I confess I had never heard of this ‘label’, Dysthymic Disorder is a chronic condition characterized by depressive symptoms that occur for most of the day, more days than not, for at least 2 years.
While depressed, a person experiences at least two of the following symptoms:
Either overeating or lack of appetite.
Sleeping too much or having difficulty sleeping.
Fatigue, lack of energy.
Poor self-esteem.
Difficulty with concentration or decision making.
Feeling hopeless

How can Jin Shin Jyutsu help?
Looking at the variety of symptoms, it is important that you help re-harmonise the WHOLE system. The most powerful way, and the easiest as well, is to work with the Self help Main Central Function – the Source of Life. Not once a day, but TWICE a day whenever possible. Also, you need to harmonise the Supervisors and especially the Mediator. In fact, I feel that Mediator is hugely important for you, so do this exercise as often as possible. It’ll keep your energies up. And don’t forget to hold your fingers as well whenever possible!

Jin Shin Jyutsu: We Need Never Know Fatigue

In the ten years that I have studied and practised Jin Shin Jyutsu, there is something that Mary wrote that has always had the most profound impact on me. That impact changes with the years, as my deepening UNDERSTANDING of her wise, wise words becomes more and more of an experiential reality for me. When I feel tired or ‘not able to go on anymore’ I simply remember her words, do a jin shin jyutsu flow or hold, and presto! my reality changes, my energy levels are up and I’m HAPPY again.

This is what the late Master Mary Burmeister said:
‘We need never know FATIGUE. Energy can never TIRE. It is our PERSONAL imbalance that causes fatigue. When our 26 ‘safety’ Energy Locks are unlocked, we are in a state of ECSTASY – the SECRET of the fountain of youth, available equally to all eternally – that which was, is and shall be, IS. The MASTER KEY is our degree of desire and trust, the KNOWING. The SIMPLE reason for perfect health and happiness is being master of anything we do – LOVE IT regardless of what it is – menial, boring or inspirational work. There should be no person or thing one dislikes – as hatred develops imbalance, which causes Fatigue. HAPPINESS is an indication of our HARMONY. We are all created equally. We have our TWO HANDS as our REJUVENATORS and HARMONIZERS. With these two hands we have the privilege of helping ourselves and others to get in tune with the universe. Hands are generators of the Creator Power – not from within us, but a part of the ever constant and forever balanced universal SUPPLY. We need only be AWARE of this supply’.

Thank you, Mary.

Experiencing the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu

“My experience with Jin Shin Jyutsu or energy medicine, as I sometimes call it, is that I can be more in control of my mind, body and emotions. For example, I can quickly alleviate fatigue, get rid of a headache, stimulate my immune system immediately so I don’t get a cold, control my weight, even give myself a facelift! I have also worked with people who had many conditions – from anxiety to cancer, and have humbly marvelled at the results – it’s so simple and yet so powerful. All I ‘do’ is introduce the Awareness of this Art. It is not something one has to create or believe in – it’s already there to be used and enjoyed!” – Astrid Kauffmann (Jin Shin Jyutsu Practitioner and Self-help Teacher)

Magic Exercise: For Sudden Fatigue

If you suffer from sudden and debilitating fatigue, it is quite possible that your ‘mediator’ energies are in need of some help. These are the energies that criss-cross the body from left to right and right to left. (note: Donna Eden has an exercise for this in her video below).

In Jin Shin Jyutsu keeping the Mediator energised is very important. I learnt this first hand one day when I had really overdone it. I was heading home on the underground in London. The journey was about half an hour long. Luckily, I managed to get a seat. I was SO excruciatingly EXHAUSTED, that I remember thinking: ‘I can’t do ANYTHING to alleviate this, not even Jin Shin Jyutsu – I just need to lie down and sleep’.

But then my hands naturally landed in a Jin Shin Jyutsu hold that Mary used to call ‘the little gem’. Half an hour later I bounced off the train, and nearly ran home. All the exhaustion was forgotten. It was one of the most incredible Jin Shin Jytusu experiences of my life.

So for the JSJ hold to alleviate fatigue: Place the right hand on the opposite left inner thigh (a few inches above the knee) and place the left hand on the opposite right upper arm (a few inches above the elbow crease) – and vice versa.

Exercise: Hold CENTER of PALM for FATIGUE

Place your fingers on the center of the palm (either side) when you feel fatigue, or when you feel like sleeping a lot and hold for a few minutes. Also for depression.
