Thank you for this wonderful JSJ website. I just helped a friend who has terrible migraine headaches with the flows from there.
Question: In the section called Magic Exercise: Hold for a Facelift, the photo and the description do not match. The photo shows someone crossing their hands and holding opposite calves but the directions describe same-side holding. But this is further confused by the end of the description where it states ‘no need to cross your arms when you work on someone else’, implying that you are to cross your arms when palming on yourself.
This is such a powerful pair that I would love to know which is the better way to do it!

Answer: Dear AC – Thanks for getting in touch and apologies for the confusion! In actual fact, both are correct whether you cross the arms or not. If you cross you are doing one side and if you don’t you are doing the other side flow. However, don’t worry about that, your point is right in that the photo and the text did not match – and so I have corrected that below! Take care and enjoy!
To do this Jin Shin Jyutsu self help exercise which is great for deep skin clearing (so helps clear acne, etc), heals burns, and is great for a facelift (do 20 minutes every day for at least 2 weeks and your friends will start commenting on how good you look):
Cross your arms, and place the palm of your RIGHT hand (with fingers facing down towards your feet) on the LEFT calf (lower leg). Do the same for the palm of the LEFT hand on the RIGHT calf. If you’re working on someone else, lie her face up, stand at her feet facing her and place your LEFT palm on her RIGHT calf fingers facing up towards her head, and your RIGHT palm on her LEFT calf, fingers facing up towards her head (in this case you don’t cross the arms).
Question: ‘I wanted to know whether there are specific holds that can help for people like me who cannot take the heat literally: (meaning that my body doesn’t seem to be able to cool down anymore when the temperature rises to above 25 degrees celcius for a couple of days). I thrive when the temperature is at around 18-22, but my internal airco seems to break down when we have a couple of consecutive days of sunny hot weather. The symptoms are that I feel a constant light pressure around my head and my eyes and my face turns all red and feels flushed and overheated, I become all sweaty, my feet start to overheat and swell up, and all these symptoms last until the temperature goes down (I’m a nordic type – blonde, blue eyes, pale skin, burn easily) … You can imagine that every time there is a heat wave predicted here, I really really hope that it won’t last for more than a few days…Any advice to deal with this with the help of JSJ holds would be more than welcome. Answer: Summer is fun but summer is also difficult for many of us who can’t take the heat very well. So when I discovered that Jin Shin Jyutsu could help me regulate my body temperature, I was overjoyed! Jed Schwartz mentioned in a class that Master Jiro Murai only ever wore a wool tunic – come heat or cold. He regulated his body temperature with his hands! And so can you –
So here are some Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help Holds for staying cool this summer: 1. Self Help Hold for the Deep Skin
2. There is an energy site on the outside of the knee and one of it’s main functions is to regulate the temperature in the body. It is energy site (SEL) number 8. Hold the right one to cool the body, hold the left one to warm the body. I always forget which one is which so I just hold them both, and the body knows what to do!!!

Question: Hello. Thank you for your blog on self help holds with Jin Shin Jyutsu. I broke out in eczema on my body 8 years ago, starting from the back of my neck and during the first year it spread to various parts of my body then gradually disappeared after 3 years. The only spot that still exists is covering all over the back of my neck, which is no longer red but still itches quite often and is a bit swollen, though I no longer feel pain when I tilt my head back. I was told that I now have scleroderma. Would you have any suggestions what points I can hold to help heal this condition? Thank you, I would really appreciate your advice. – D
Answer: Hi D – The special body function for the skin is to palm the calves. At least 20 minutes a day and if you can, twice a day for at least two weeks. See this older post Self Help for the Deep Skin. There is also another special function energy hold for the Skin Surface. Place the fingers of the right hand under the left foot at center of the sole, and with the left hand hold the left little toe. Reverse the hands for the other side. This hold is particularly great for any itchiness of the skin. It also purifies the skin. It would also help to do the Main Central Exercise (see the older post) to harmonise your whole being and help sort out the underlying causes i.e. the immune system (you could also work on the immune system, not to stimulate it, but to harmonise it with this Immune System Hold. And finally hold your Thumb for skin surface, and your Ring finger (either side) for deep skin. Hope all this helps! – Astrid

Question: When younger I had no problems with heat but these days I feel easily ‘over heated’ even when it is not so hot and wearing normal clothing for the season. Is it possible to remedy this with JSJ?
Answer: Yes it is. The two things that come to me are the Spleen flow (Mary explains the flow in Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help book 1 – starts on page 39) and a special energy function flow for the deep skin in Text 2 (JSJ seminar) on page 45. If you feel relief, but it doesn’t clear up, then there will be further flows and holds to recommend. A good idea is also to practise the Main Central every day. Have fun!
