Question: I am responding to your offer of help for particular issues. Perhaps you can help me. I have some rather challenging issues with my energy patterns. Every time I do any energy work, my energy shoots up to my upper regions, especially to my crown&#8230;..I have tried some grounding exercises, but they have not been very helpful. It seems to me that I am having issues with descending the energy again. I think the energy rises up my front and back. Everything goes up, nothing comes down. My head feels like a balloon! I wonder if there are any exercises that specifically address that concern. I would be very grateful, thank you! -M<br clear="all" /><br />
Answer: Dear M, Ascending energy comes up the back and descending energy goes down the front.  To help balance the two, do the wonderful <a href="http://www.flowsforlife.com/exercise-the-main-central-source-of-life/">Main Central</a> exercise, and you can also hold the insides of your knees to bring the energy down (experiment with crossing or not crossing your arms).</p>
<p>Two other exercises:</p>
<p>If there is an effect in the front of the body (like bloating, stomach cramp, etc) then the cause or the tension is in the back so we work on the back to clear the front. A simple exercise to clear the front is to do the following: for the left side, place your right hand over your left shoulder and sit on your left hand (so place your left hand on your left sitting bone, palm up). Do this for at least 20 minutes, and reverse the hands for the right side. This exercise is also good to clear the head, and headaches.</p>
<p>If there is an effect in the back of the body (so back pain, hip pain, etc) then the cause or tension is in the front of the body, so we work on the front to clear the back. A simple exercise to clear the back is to do the following: for the left side, place your right hand over your left shoulder and place your left hand/fingers in your left groin. Do this for at least 20 minutes, then reverse the hands for the right side. This exercise is also great to boost your immune system and helps alleviate heavy legs.</p>

<p>Recently, I sat next to a gentleman on a (short) flight. He was at least 6 foot tall, the flight was full and he had to cram himself into a seat next to the window. However, he had a very calm energy about him, and he did not fidget. Then I saw that he was holding his thumb! So I also held my thumb, to help us both!</p>
<p>Isn&#8217;t it comforting to know that helping MYSELF is as simple as holding a thumb or a finger? When I first started working with this Art, I was disbelieving. I said to myself: &#8216;It can&#8217;t be that simple. I will start with something much more complicated so I get REALLY good results.&#8217;</p>
<p>The interesting thing is that some of my most powerful results have come from spending a few minutes just holding a finger!</p>
<p>I encourage you to choose one of your thumbs or fingers (or let IT choose you!!) &#8211; to close your eyes and hold it for a few minutes in a quiet space. The last time I suggested this to a friend, she was amazed to discover that a whole HOUR had gone by &#8211; after which she felt like new&#8230;.</p>
<p>But don&#8217;t take my word for it. As Mary always used to say: &#8216;Be your own testimony.&#8217;</p>

<p>The crossing energies go from left to right and right to left &#8211; they &#8216;mediate&#8217; and &#8216;supervise&#8217; the energies of the left and right sides of our body.</p>
<p>They also supply the whole BEING, so it is really important to keep them functioning properly.</p>
<p>So to harmonise and re-energise these crossing or &#8216;Mediating&#8217; energies, do this exercise until you feel relief! I find it really comfortable to do this exercise lying down in bed with pillows and cushions where I need them.</p>
<p>The left side flow:<br />
Place the right hand over the left shoulder. At the same time, place the left thumb over the left ring fingernail to make a circle.  At the same time, bring the knees together (this helps the &#8216;supervisory left energy). (see the image)</p>
<p>The right side flow:<br />
Place the left hand over the right shoulder. At the same time, place the right thumb over the right ring fingernail to make a circle.  At the same time, bring the knees together (this helps the supervisory right energy).</p>

I fell asleep in this position, and the next morning there was no sign of any discomfort or discoloration of the skin.</p>

<p>I also used this hold recently when an angry red blotch developed on my face. I was quite alarmed, because having lived in the tropics, my skin has endured quite a lot of sun over the years. I was quite sure that I would have to have it burnt off.</p>
<p>So I dutifully asked for an appointment with the dermatologist, which was given to me about 6 weeks hence! I decided I wasn&#8217;t going to wait that long to start working on it, so I did the hold below for a couple of nights in front of the TV and WOW it was so much better I could hardly see any more redness!</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Whenever you need to clear the skin surface then do this Jin Shin Jyutsu self help hold for the skin:<br />
(Right side)<br />
Place your right fingers on the left center of your foot (as shown in the photo)<br />
Grab your right little toe with your right fingers/hand<br />
Hold!</p>
<p>For deeper skin projects like burns, eczema, acne, psoriasis (and even for a face lift!) do this Jin Shin Jyutsu self help hold:<br />
Place the palm of your right hand with fingers facing down on your left calf<br />
Place the palm of your left hand with your fingers facing down on your right calf<br />
Hold for at least twenty minutes. (for a facelift, do this 20 minutes every day for at least two weeks)</p>

<p>Case in point. Maria is 75 and she has a very hunched back. She can’t stand up straight anymore. One would say that this is something that ‘happens’ in ‘old age’.  However, another story unfolds when we add an understanding of the energy body to the equation.</p>

<p>Let’s say that when Maria was younger (years younger), something frightened her and she stopped breathing properly. She became afraid of letting go, of exhaling the dirt, dust, grease and grime.</p>
<p>As she became afraid of exhaling, the energy down the front of her body became tenser and started ‘pulling her down’, at the same time creating a safe, protective space for her chest and her heart.</p>
<p>‘The body is the demonstration of your thinking’.  – Postures of the body give the state of the heart and the mind.</p>
<p>The Ancient Healing Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu allows us to: 1. move through our disharmonies at the point when they HAVE NOT YET TAKEN HOLD IN THE PHYSICAL, 2. REPAIR THE BODY when disharmonies have taken hold in the physical and 3.
